Verizon Wireless Settles Velveteen Rabbit Lawsuit
After filing a lawsuit last month, verizon Wireless says that it has settled its dispute with a firm which spammed its customers with adverts for a forthcoming movie, The Velveteen Rabbit. In addition to a permanent injunction preventing any future calls, the Utah-based telemarketer has agreed to a US$25,000 cash settlement, which verizon Wireless is donating to the National Domestic Violence Hotline (NDVH). more

Verizon Wireless Files Lawsuit to Stop Marketers From Calling Customers About Movie
verizon Wireless says that it has filed a lawsuit to stop a marketing company from calling its customers to advertise the upcoming movie, "The Velveteen Rabbit." The lawsuit, filed this week in U.S. District Court in Trenton, alleges the company, Feature Films for Families, illegally used an autodialer to call verizon Wireless customers on behalf of a company called Family 1 Films, based in Los Angeles. more

Justice Department Requires Divestitures in Verizon's Acquisition of Rural Cellular Corp
The USA's Department of Justice has announced that it will require verizon Communications to divest assets in six geographic areas in Vermont, New York and Washington in order to proceed with its $2.7 billion acquisition of Rural Cellular Corp. (RCC), which does business under the Unicel name. The Department said that the transaction as originally proposed would have substantially lessened competition to the detriment of consumers of mobile wireless telecommunications services in those areas, potentially resulting in higher prices, lower quality and reduced network investments. more
