LTE Trials Pick up Speed as the World Prepares to Go 4G
2011 will be the year when LTE goes live in a big way, as Verizon in the United States and DoCoMo in Japan will begin wide-scale roll-outs by the end of 2010. ABI Research analyst Bhavya Khanna reports, "132 networks have reported trials or plans to launch LTE commercially, 32 more than the end of 2009. LTE Subscribers: From Zero to 32 Million in Three Years

Firefox Mobile Browser Developers Joins Mobile Linux Group
The mobile Linux OS trade group, LiMo Foundation has announced the addition of Infineon Technologies, Kvaleberg, Mozilla (the group behind the Firefox web browser), Red Bend Software, Sagem Mobiles, SFR, SK Telecom and Verizon Wireless as new member companies. Expanding LiMo's membership to 40 since the foundation's launch in January 2007, these companies join with existing LiMo members to collaborate on the LiMo Platform - a Linux-based software platform for mobile devices. more

According to MIC (Market Intelligence Center), an ICT industry research institute based in Taipei, global mobile phone subscribers hit 3.1 billion in 2007, thanks mainly to the continuing increase of prepaid subscribers with double SIM cards and corporate clients in the US and European markets. With the global mobile phone penetration rate reaching approximately half of the global population, growth momentum of global subscribers is expected to slow down after 2008. more
