Global Mobile Phone Subscribers to Reach 4.5 Billion by 2012

According to MIC (Market Intelligence Center), an ICT industry research institute based in Taipei, global mobile phone subscribers hit 3.1 billion in 2007, thanks mainly to the continuing increase of prepaid subscribers with double SIM cards and corporate clients in the US and European markets. With the global mobile phone penetration rate reaching approximately half of the global population, growth momentum of global subscribers is expected to slow down after 2008.  more

Verizon Wireless Confirms LTE for its Network Evolution

A few months after Vodafone's Arun Sarin said that he expects the US Verizon Wireless to adopt 3GPP LTE for its network evolution, the company has now outlined its plans to develop and deploy its fourth generation mobile broadband network using LTE. The selection of LTE provides Verizon and Vodafone - joint owners of USA-based Verizon Wireless - with an opportunity to adopt a common access platform that offers compatibility with the existing technologies of both companies.  more

CDG on the Proliferation of CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Rev A Networks

The CDMA Development Group (CDG) has announced that there are now 47 operators in 33 countries that have selected CDMA2000® 1xEV-DO Revision A (Rev. A) to deliver advanced broadband services, of which 13 of them are commercial. The number of operators that have decided to deploy Rev. A has more than doubled within the past 8 months, with the greatest amount of adoption coming from emerging markets.  more
