Embedded 3G laptops over-hyped: Will account for just 30% of Mobile Broadband subscribers by 2011

The near-term importance of new embedded-3G and embedded-WiMAX notebooks has been significantly over-estimated, according to a new research report published by Disruptive Analysis. Even in three year's time, laptops with built-in wireless access will only be used by 30% of total, active mobile broadband subscribers globally. External usb modems (or "dongles") will account for 58% - almost twice as many.  more

HTC Unveils its New Windows Mobile TouchScreen Phone

Alcatel-Lucent to Resell Oki Mobile WiMAX Terminals

Japan's Oki Electric Industry has announced an agreement with Alcatel-Lucent, to jointly market it's mobile WiMAX terminals to the worldwide market. OKI expects to begin shipping WiMAX compatible products in the second half of this year.  more

Qatar Telecom Claims 50,000 HSDPA Subscribers

Qatar Telecom (Qtel) has announced that it now has 50,000 customers connected to its HSDPA mobile network, which was launched in July 2007. Qtel's 3.5G network covers most of the East Coast of Qatar including Doha, Wakrah, Rayyan, Messaieed, Khor and Ras Laffan. Qtel is working on improving the coverage further within these areas and also to roll out the 3.5G network to other areas.  more

Nortel to Start Selling WiMAX Consumer Products

Nortel says that it plans to start direct sales of WiMAX-enabled devices. The Company intends to offer its service provider customers devices such as PC express cards and usb dongles for WiMAX connectivity on laptops, as well as indoor routers and outdoor gateways for WiMAX to the home or business.  more
