Verizon Wireless Admits Handover Delay on LTE Network
USA based Verizon Wireless has acknowledged that subscribers using its LTE network can experience a delay of up to two minutes during the handover from 3G to LTE networks if using one of their usb modems. The company said that the delay was expected, and that improvements are currently being planned. more

Telecom Italia is fitting out Italian high-speed trains with on-board Wi-Fi services, with the first trains coming into service within the next few weeks. Altair Semiconductor Powering LTE Modem for Polish Network Operator
Altair Semiconductor has been selected by Polish mobile network operator, Mobyland to power its LTE-usb modems operating in the 1800Mhz spectrum band. The solution, an LTE-usb modem based on Altair's FourGee-3100/6200 technology, is manufactured by IPWireless, and has already conducted interoperability testing and field testing, allowing for immediate deployment on Mobyland's network. more

WiMAX deployments continue despite questions about their long-term roadmap
A total of 1.8 million BWA/WiMAX subscribers were added in Q2 2010 and 2 million will be added in Q3 2010, according to a report from industry watchers, Maravedis. With over 600 WiMAX deployments and more than 200 devices and 60 base stations certified, the worldwide WIMAX industry accounted for over 9 million subscribers at the end of Q2 2010. more

Mobile Data Modem Vendors Are Already On the 4G Starting Line
The number of mobile broadband subscribers is projected to surpass 1.5 billion by 2015. "While the majority of subscribers connect to the mobile Internet via their smartphones, a number do so via their modem-enabled iPads, netbooks and laptops," says ABI Research principal analyst Jeff Orr. "Mobile operators are starting to see burgeoning revenue growth in mobile broadband services.
