Australian network operator, Telstra has upgraded its Ericsson supplied network to support peak network uplink speeds of 5.8Mbps. LTE Deployments will Cluster in 2600 Frequency Band
Strategy Analytics is predicting that the majority of LTE deployments by wireless operators will use the 2,600 MHz band, creating ample new opportunities for terminal component vendors. A strong tranche of deployments will also occur at sub-1,000 MHz frequencies, including roll-outs by such prominent operators as Verizon in the US, eventually accounting for one-third of deployments globally. more

Cellular Modem Shipments Exceeded 35 Million in 2008
Shipment data for the cellular modems used to connect laptops and netbooks to the Internet indicate that more than 35 million of the devices hit the market in 2008. Of that total, the majority were the external USB modems that mobile operators have been pushing for some time. Embedded 3G laptops over-hyped: Will account for just 30% of Mobile Broadband subscribers by 2011
The near-term importance of new embedded-3G and embedded-WiMAX notebooks has been significantly over-estimated, according to a new research report published by Disruptive Analysis. Even in three year's time, laptops with built-in wireless access will only be used by 30% of total, active mobile broadband subscribers globally. External USB modems (or "dongles") will account for 58% - almost twice as many. more

The centrepiece among this new suite of solutions is a notebook-embedded 3G module that supports Microsoft Windows 7 - HuaweiÃ's EM770. The EM770 3G module delivers uplink speeds of 5.76Mbps and it has already been integrated into notebooks manufactured by ASUSTek Computer and Elitegroup Computer Systems. more
