Europe's Top Ten Networks - All Now Over 20m Customers
In Issue 98 of the Mobile World Briefing, when last reviewing the European market, we suggested that "if the normal seasonal pattern is repeated in Q4, then the final period of the year should see something between 25-30m new connections, enough to take penetration up to 110%". We mention this, because the normal seasonal pattern was repeated, we did see 25m new connections across the region and penetration is now standing at exactly 110%. more

GSA Survey Confirms 637 HSPA Devices Launched
GSA, the Global mobile Suppliers Association has announced that a total of 637 HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access) products have now launched, representing an annual growth of 150%. The number of suppliers increased from 62 to 110 in the same period. The survey incorporates product launch announcements at recent trade shows including CES, Mobile World Congress, CeBIT and CTIA. more

Qatar Telecom Claims 50,000 HSDPA Subscribers
Qatar Telecom (Qtel) has announced that it now has 50,000 customers connected to its HSDPA mobile network, which was launched in July 2007. Qtel's 3.5G network covers most of the East Coast of Qatar including Doha, Wakrah, Rayyan, Messaieed, Khor and Ras Laffan. Qtel is working on improving the coverage further within these areas and also to roll out the 3.5G network to other areas. more

Claro launches 3G services in Sao Paulo

Six mobiles from Sony Ericsson are on the Top Ten List of best-selling mobile phones in Telia's retail stores during November. Four of the phones are 3G handsets. Mobile broadband continues to be the best seller, which is why USB modems captured first place. Nokia is on the list with three mobiles. more

IPWireless Ships 600th 3G TD-CDMA Base Station to T-Mobile
NextWave Wireless says that its IPWireless subsidiary has now shipped more than 600 UMTS TD-CDMA wireless broadband base stations with more than 2,000 sectors of network capacity to T-Mobile for deployment in the Czech Republic. more

Four New WiMAX Devices from Samsung
Samsung Electronics has unveiled its four latest Mobile WiMAX devices to the Korean market. The devices have been upgraded from previous Mobile WiMAX devices in terms of design and functions. One PDA type(SPH-M8200), one mobile convergence device(SPH-P9200), and two USB modem type(SPH-H1300, SWT-200K) devices have been launched. All four Mobile WiMAX devices are currently available through Korea Telecom's Mobile WiMAX network. more

Sony Ericsson Dominate Telia Most Popular Handsets
Mobile broadband continued to be a big seller in Telia's retail stores in Sweden, and as a result, sales of USB modems topped the list for September. Six out of nine mobile phones on the list were from Sony Ericsson, of which two were new models for September. more

3G Modems Top Telia Sales Chart for the 2nd Month
Statistics are based on sales in 77 Telia retail stores in Sweden . In August, Telia opened two new retail stores in Stockholm and Gothenburg. During the autumn, approximately ten new stores will be opened. Customers set a new record this summer by visiting Telia's retail stores in record numbers during the month of July. Telia has the largest retail chain in Sweden for telecom products and is one of the biggest resellers of mobile phones in the country. more
