United Internet Overtakes Vodafone in German Broadband Market

­United Internet has become the second largest Broadband Service Provider (BSP) in Germany, according to a report just published by Strategy Analytics. The report notes that United Internet's recent acquisition of Freenet helped the service provider reach 3.5 million subscribers, and propelled it into second position in the German market.  more

Freenet Secures Deal to buy Debitel

Germany's Freenet has finally agreed to buy rival telecoms service provider, Debitel for US$2.6 billion after fending off a rival bid which emerged recently from United Internet AG. Freenet, which merged with Mobilcom last year will buy Debitel from Permira Advisers - who will then take a 24.99% stake in the newly enlarged company. Permira Advisers is also advancing a US$207 million loan to Freenet as part of the buyout.  more

German Telecoms Sales Rose 2.3% To EUR68.3 Billion In 05 -Agency

BERLIN -(Dow Jones)- Germany's telecommunications market outperformed the economy as a whole, with sales rising by an estimated 2.3% compared with an 0.9% rise in the country's gross domestic product, a parliamentary committee said Friday.  more
