Asia-Pacific leads high-speed Internet connectivity, but wide divide prevails
The International Telecoms union (ITU) has reported that while some Asia-Pacific economies are world leaders in information and communication technologies (ICT) where broadband access is ultra-high speed, affordable and close to ubiquitous, in most of the region's poorer countries Internet access remains limited and predominantly low-speed. A new report finds evidence that ICTs and broadband uptake foster growth and development, but the question remains as to the optimal speed that should be targeted in view of limited resources. more

Telefonica and O2 Lowers European Data Roaming Tariffs
Telefƒ³nica has announced cuts in its data roaming tariffs of up to 40% within Europe. The company says that consumers in Spain, the UK, Germany, the Czech Republic and Ireland will benefit from cuts of more than 40% in data roaming prices, while the cost of sending a text message home from anywhere in the European union falls to a maximum of ¢â€š¬0.32 + taxes. For business travellers, a new roaming bundle provides worldwide access to data at a price equivalent to ¢â€š¬1 per megabyte (MB) - subject to a minimum spend of ¢â€š¬50 per month. more
