Telcordia Wins Malaysian Mobile Number Portability Management Contract
With mobile number portability in Malaysia just months away, Telcordia says that it has won a contract to provide a MNP clearing house for the operators. In March, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) announced that a consortium comprising Talian Gerak Alih, Unified Communications and Telcordia was selected to build, operate and manage the Mobile Number Portability Clearinghouse in Malaysia. more

Landline Operators Driving Fixed-Mobile Convergence
Fixed telecoms operators will be the driving force behind fixed mobile convergence over the next five years, according to a report from Informa Telecoms & Media. The study predicts 92 million subscribers by 2011 generating US$28 billion in revenues and comprising 3% of overall subscriptions. Fixed operators will aggressively roll out FMC services in order to target the ongoing threat of 'fixed mobile substitution' - where people are using mobiles rather than landlines. more

Hutchison 3G selects multimedia provider
The UK 3G license holder, Hutchison3G has awarded CMG Wireless Data Solutions the contract to provide its Multimedia and Unified Communications platform. This is a global agreement that will apply to all Hutchison group companies and affiliates requiring them to deploy CMG's 3G IP based messaging platform. The contract includes CMG's products based on IP and other open standards, such as Unified Communications solutions, the Multimedia Messaging Service Centre, Wireless Service Broker and the Short Messaging Service Centre. more

CMG boosts its wireless data solutions with Cisco purchase
CMG has announced an agreement with Cisco Systems to acquire Cisco's uOne Unified Communications software platform for the service provider market and the Research & Development team supporting this technology to CMG. Approximately 100 employees in Richmond, Virginia, USA, will become a part of CMG Wireless Data Solutions. The unified communications software platform will continue to be marketed under the uOne brand name, while the technology will also be embedded in CMG's Unified Messaging solution for wireless network operators. CMG Wireless Data Solutions was a Cisco uOne partner and had already selected uOne for integration in CMG's Unified Messaging solution. Now with this transaction, CMG will offer uOne to the communications market world wide. The ongoing net R&D investment associated with the uOne products will be subsumed within CMG's total 2001 stated R&D investment of US$85 million." more
