Gemalto Supplying to All Three Mobile Operators in China
Smartcard vendor, Gemalto says that it has started supplying its uicc (Universal Identity Cryptographic Computer) and R-UIM (Removable User Identity Module) cards to all three mobile operators in China for their 3G networks. With deliveries made through its joint ventures in China, Gemalto says that it is the first provider to be fully qualified to support the different 3G wireless standards; CDMA EVDO, TD-SCDMA and WCDMA. more

Verizon Wireless Selects Gemalto to Provide OTA and UICC for LTE Network
Gemalto has won a contract from Verizon Wireless to provide an over-the-air (OTA) platform and LTE Universal Integrated Circuit Card (uicc) for the operator's LTE network upgrade. The uicc will be used inside mobile devices to manage subscriber information exchange – such as transferring contacts and preferences from one device to another – while providing secure access to Verizon Wireless' LTE network. more

Alliance to Accelerate European Deployment of Mobile Payment Services
The GSMA, the global trade body for the mobile industry, and the European Payments Council, which represents 8,000 banks in the European Union and EEA and Switzerland, are to work together to accelerate the deployment of services that enable consumers to pay for goods and services in shops, restaurants and other locations using their mobile phones. more

Operators to Launch NFC-Based Mobile Payment Services
Over the next several months, 12 mobile operators will run trials of contactless mobile payment services in Australia, France, Ireland, Korea, Malaysia, Norway, The Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Turkey and the U.S. as a precursor to commercial launches. The trials form part of the GSMA's Pay-Buy-Mobile initiative, which is designed to provide a single global approach to enabling contactless payments using a mobile phone. Consumers will be able to use their handsets to quickly, easily and securely pay for goods and services in shops, restaurants and train stations. more

SchlumbergerSema shipping 3G smart cards
SchlumbergerSema says that it has started the initial roll-out of a dedicated next generation uicc (Universal Integrated Circuit Card) smart card platform for 3G UMTS networks, which has been developed in partnership with T-Mobile. SchlumbergerSema is delivering the complete solution -- including cards, software development tools, specific applications, training, technical support, consulting and integration services -- to support T-Mobile's roll-out of 3G services. more
