Orascom Telecom Q1 Down on Currency Devaluations

Egypt's Orascom Telecom has reported a 66 percent drop in its first-quarter profits to US$72 million - largely due to local currency devaluations against the US Dollar. Revenues dropped by 4 percent to US$1.2 billion.  more

Orascom Telecom Q3 Profit Drops 28% on Pakistan Woes

Orascom Telecom (OTH) has reported a 3rd quarter profit of US$90.5 million - down 28% on the same period a year ago thanks to lower revenues from its Pakistan subsidiary. The 3rd quarter figure was 12% up on the US$80.4 million in Q2 of this year. Revenues reached US$1.37 billion - barely up on the US$1.36 billion in Q2.  more

Tunisian Operator Upgrades GPRS Core Network

Tunisian mobile operator, tunisiana has modernized its GPRS core network following an upgrade contract which was awarded to Nokia Siemens Networks. The company installed its Flexi ISN, which performs GPRS Gateway Service Node (GGSN) and data charging functionalities, and is fully integrated with the existing Nokia Siemens Networks charge@once prepaid solution to enable flexible charging of data services.  more

Fitch Raises Orascom Telecom Tunisie Outlook to Positive

Fitch Ratings has today affirmed Orascom Telecom Tunisie (OTT) Long-term foreign and local currency Issuer Default ratings (IDR) at 'BB+'. Fitch has changed the Outlooks for both Long-term ratings to Positive from Stable. Fitch has also assigned OTT a National Long-term rating of 'A(tun)' with a Positive outlook. OTT has no issues outstanding as of December 2007.  more

Tunisian Operator Upgrades Provisioning Platform

Comptel has announced that the Tunisia based GSM operator, tunisiana, a joint venture of Orascom Telecom Holding and Wataniya in Tunisia, has selected its Provisioning and Activation Solution. This follows the recent announcement of Comptel being selected as preferred supplier by Orascom Telecom. The solution will be used to improve the service fulfillment processes for mobile services including planned 3G services.  more
