Huawei Deploys WiMAX Network in Trinidad and Tobago

Huawei has announced that Telecommunications Services of Trinidad and Tobago (tstt) has launched the Caribbean's largest commercial WiMAX network. The entire network will be completed by the beginning of 2011. The first phase of the WiMAX network, which has already been launched, covers certain hot spots and provides wireless broadband services, such as Internet access for local residents and tourists and video surveillance for enterprise and government users.  more

Digicel Loses Lawsuits Against Cable & Wireless Communications

Cable & Wireless Communications says that it has won a legal victory in the UK High Court against claims it unlawfully delayed the entry of Digicel into the Caribbean telecoms market. Mr Justice Morgan handed down a judgement in the High Court dismissing all the claims brought by Digicel, a competitor to Cable & Wireless Communications in the Caribbean, except for in the Turks & Caicos where he found a minor breach of contract but ruled it caused no delay to Digicel and thus no loss.  more

Redknee Enables TSTT's Prepaid Customers to Use Blackberries

Trinidad and Tobago telco, tstt has updated its existing Redknee provided platform to add prepaid charging services for BlackBerry smartphones. Launched successfully in December 2008, it allows tstt to extend the service and offer the same email, messaging and browsing experience on BlackBerry(R) smartphones for prepaid subscribers as it does for postpaid subscribers.  more

Trinidad & Tobago Operators Finally Agree to Interconnect Their Networks

After some two years of disputes, the two mobile operators in Trinidad & Tobago, Digicel and tstt have finally signed an interconnection agreement - allowing customers to make calls to users on the competing networks. The agreement was eventually facilitated by the arbitration panel set up by the Telecommunications Authority (TATT) to sort out the ongoing disputes.  more

Trinidad & Tobago Operator to Cut 4% of its Workforce

Telecommunications Services of Trinidad and Tobago (tstt) has announced plans to cut its workforce by 4% to increase efficiency in an increasingly competitive market. Approximately 40 members of its managerial staff were separated from the company earlier this week. tstt has since written to the Communication Workers Union advising them that the company has identified 83 employees from within general staff whose positions have been identified as redundant with plans for separation.  more

Suspected sabotage at Telecommunications Services of Trinidad and Tobago's (tstt) Macqueripe cell site has disrupted mobile telephone service in the area and tstt Head of Security and Operational Risk, Dennis Gordon, believes that it is part of an organised attack on tstt's infrastructure.  more
