Thai Regulator Approves Bidders for 3G Licenses
Thailand's telecoms regulator has approved applications by three of the country's mobile networks to bid in the forthcoming 3G license tender. The three bidders will be AIS, DTAC and TrueMove - although under the terms of the license tender, only two of the companies will win a license. more

Delays to Thailand's 3G License Auction Could Damage Investor Confidence

Thai Operators Start Blocking Spam SMS
Thailand's three main mobile network operators are to cooperate on blocking SMS spam being sent over their networks. The three GSM based networks, AIS, DTAC and True Move are to spend THB 30 million (US$880,000) on anti-spam software to filter messages sent between their three networks. more

Thailand's AIS Q1 2009 - Slow quarter, but on a par with rivals
AIS is the market leader in Thailand, where penetration looks to have finished Q1 09 at around 95%. The rise in penetration has been accompanied by a decline in growth, with annual growth rates falling in each quarter since Q2 07. Although the full Q1 09 set of results for Thailand is not yet complete, it seems almost certain to be the slowest quarter since Q3 05, when there were net additions of just 0.41m. Both True Move and DTAC saw their lowest gains since that same quarter, with uplifts of 0.25m and 0.26m respectively. AIS only just managed to top these figures with a gain of 0.27m, its lowest result since Q1 06 and the second lowest this century. more

Alcatel-Lucent has announced plans to conduct a trial of WiMAX Rev-e technology with Thailand based operator, True Corp. For the trial Alcatel-Lucent will provide True Corporation with a comprehensive WiMAX solution that operates on the 2.5 GHz frequency band, including base stations, wireless access controller, operation and maintenance center, customer premises equipment (CPE) - including WiMAX CPE and wireless cards for laptop computers. more
