Cellular Backhaul Drives Point-to-Point Radio Market

The latest study from Strategy Analytics predicts that point-to-point radio shipments will increase at a compound annual average growth rate (CAAGR) of 8 percent, to exceed 1.5 million units in 2012. Radio Cellular backhaul will continue to be the primary market for point-to-point radios, with other applications, such as trunking, enterprise and public safety, making up the balance.  more

GaAs Semiconductor Market Grows 17 Percent Year-on-Year

A new report from Strategy Analytics says that total GaAs Semiconductor market exhibited year-on-year growth of 17% in 2007, beating the lackluster growth observed in the mainstream semiconductor market, and in-line with previous Strategy Analytics expectations. Overall the market was worth $3.6 billion with RFMD, Skyworks and triquint continuing to dominate the landscape and accounting for 50% of the total market.  more

3G Base Station Amplifiers That Can Reduce Waste Heat Nearly 50%

triquint tested the first of its new HV-HBT amplifiers in a design commonly used by base station amplifier manufacturers that pairs devices in a 'Doherty' configuration. Used in this manner, the devices delivered an efficiency level of 57%, surpassing the efficiencies available using either conventional laterally-diffused metal oxide semiconductor (LDMOS) transistors or more expensive gallium nitride (GaN) devices.  more

TriQuint to improve GSM power amp manufacturing

triquint Semiconductor says that it is collaborating with Amkor Technology to commercialize a low-cost flip-chip assembly process for GaAs semiconductors based on triquint's CuFlip bumping technology. Using CuFlip copper 'bumps,' electrical connections once made by wire bonds are now possible by directly linking contact points on a semiconductor die to the module ceramic or laminate substrate. more
