Indian Operators Warned Over Interconnection Delays

Indian Regulator Orders Tariff Changes

India's regulator, trai has issued an order to the mobile network operators in the States of Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh not to charge differential tariffs for calls terminating in BSNL network and other service providers networks. Following a license amendment, calls between Mumbai Metro & Maharashtra Telecom Circle, Chennai Metro & Tamil Nadu Telecom Circle, Kolkata Metro & West Bengal Telecom Circle and UP (East) & UP (West) Telecom Circle Service Areas were treated as intra-service area calls for the purpose of call routing and levy of ADC. more

India to decide on CPP by December

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (trai) has said that it plans to make an announcement on the introduction of Caller Party Pays (CPP) for cell phones by the end of this year. trai chairman M S Verma said as a conference, "The real issue is whether or not it is necessary to have CPP for faster growth of mobile telephony," adding that a decision will be taken by December. The basic service providers, lead by BSNL are opposed to plans to introduce CPP saying that it will benefit the cellular networks at the expense of basic carriers and the general public." more
