Worldwide Semiconductor Revenue Down in 2008 - Qualcomm Bucks the Trend

Worldwide semiconductor revenue totaled $255 billion in 2008, down 5.4 percent, or a decrease of $14.5 billion from 2007 revenue, according to the final market share analysis by Gartner. Qualcomm, Broadcom Leap Up Top-20 Semiconductor Rankings

IC InsightsÃ' May update to The McClean Report describes the big shakeup in the 1Q08 top 20 semiconductor supplier ranking. There are eight U.S. companies in the top 20 (including three fabless semiconductor suppliers), six Japanese, three European, two South Korean, and one Taiwanese company (IC foundry supplier TSMC) in the ranking.  more

iSuppli Raises 2006 Chip Estimate

After years of coming close to breaking into the top-10 global semiconductor rankings, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) and Hynix Semiconductor finally hit the big time in 2006, according to a preliminary ranking from iSuppli Corp. In the telecoms world, Qualcomm maintained its ranking while Broadcom managed to jump a couple of places.
