Almost one in five (19%) of all mobile phone owners worldwide now listen to music on their phones, according to a new study by tns. Amongst this global group, some 16% of all music they listen to daily is on their phones, compared with 15% on a stereo system at home and just 10% on a personal digital music player, such as an iPod. As consumers are presented with a host of next generation wireless services, interest in those services remains tepid - unless they're going to help consumers dodge raindrops and traffic jams. The latest quarterly survey from tns Telecoms indicates that 20% of households are interested in a service that provides local weather and traffic alerts via text messaging. In contrast, only 6% of households indicated they would be interested in sports programming and 7% indicated interest in watching clips of television shows. more

A recent national survey in the USA, conducted by tns and sponsored by TRUSTe revealed that more than half of American mobile phone users (53%) are against the establishment of a nationwide directory of wireless numbers. The survey, which polled 1,068 consumers, also indicated that 56% would opt-out of publishing their numbers. more
