2Wire and Thomson Gain Wi-Fi Market Share

2Wire and thomson were big winners in the 2008 Wi-Fi market, growing their shipments by nearly 60% annually. Each significantly outperformed the overall market, gaining market share, reports In-Stat. 2Wire achieved 11% share, while thomson's share grew to almost 8%. Market share among the other leading competitors, Linksys, Netgear, and D-Link was flat or down in 2008 compared to 2007.  more

Hutchison Whampoa Full-Year Profits Down 43% on One-Off Items

Hong Kong based conglomerate, Hutchison Whampoa has reported a 43 percent slump in 2008 to HK$17.7 billion (US$2.3 billion) - from HK$30.6 billion (US$3.9 billion). The results were however higher than the average forecasts of HK$15.5 billion, according to analysts polled by thomson Reuters. The reduction in income was due to the removal of a one-off exceptional profit from a year earlier. Revenues grew by 13 percent to HK$348 billion (US$44.9 billion) for the full year.  more

Foxconn Full-Year Profits Drop 83%

Foxconn International Holdings - the mobile phone manufacturing division of Taiwan's giant Hon Hai Precision Industry has reported a net loss for the second half of last year, which dragged its full year profit down by 83.% to US$121 million - compared with US$721 million a year earlier.  more

Rogers Communications 2Q Net Up; Sees Higher 2nd Half Wireless Costs

Rogers Communications posted higher second-quarter earnings in the absence of a large year-earlier charge, as revenue improved 12%.
