UK Consumers Using More Communication Services - but Paying Less
People in the UK are spending more time using communications services than ever before - but paying less for them, according to the annual report from the UK's telecoms regulator, Ofcom. The report shows that in 2007 Brits spent an average of 7 hours and 9 minutes a day using an array of communications services - up by 6 minutes from 2002. This includes watching television, surfing the net, using mobiles, talking on a landline phone and listening to the radio. more

England's World Cup Campaign encouraged fans to notch up record figures for text messaging last month. Figures released by the Mobile Data Association (MDA) show that 112 million SMS's were sent on average per day throughout June, with the total monthly figure topping 3.37 billion. Person-to-person texts sent across the UK GSM network operators last month show an increase of almost 30% on the total sent during the same period in 2005. In the first six months of 2006 over 18 billion person-to-person text messages were sent in the UK, well on the way to the MDA's annual forecast of 36.5 billion. more
