Riding the momentum of continued strong demand growth for mobile handsets, sales of semiconductors for wireless products rose at a faster pace than the overall chip market in 2007, according to iSuppli. The global wireless semiconductor market generated $29.5 billion in revenue in 2007, up 7.6 percent from $27.4 billion in 2006. These figures consist of revenue from sales of application-specific semiconductors - excluding memory - for wireless applications, including mobile handsets, wireless infrastructure equipment, wireless LANs and connectivity products. more

Wireless-Chip Market Outpaced Wireline-Chip Market in 2007
Growing adoption of 3G technologies and feature-rich cell-phone chips led to a 13% increase in sales of cellular baseband processors in 2007, according to The Linley Group. Sales of networking chips, in contrast, declined by about 1% during the same period according to their new report. In the second quarter, market-leader Qualcomm achieved wireless semiconductor revenue of US$1.37 billion, up 8.6 percent from $1.26 billion in the first quarter.
