Motorola Sues RIM for Poaching Staff

Motorola is suing rival handset manufacturer, Research in Motion after it claimed that company has been poaching its staff. The lawsuit, filed last week says that RIM lured away some 40 of its employees in Florida since the beginning of this year.  more

Motorola Wins Patent Lawsuit Appeal

Motorola has won an appeal in a patent lawsuit which related to the use of text messaging in mobile phones. Motorola originally won a the lawsuit, filed by the University of texas System - but the university chose to appeal against the judgement.  more

T-Mobile Appeals to FCC to Rethink 'Free Internet' Proposal

WASHINGTON -(Dow Jones)- T-Mobile USA, a unit of Deutsche Telekom, flew in its chief technical officer Thursday to plead with the Federal Communications Commission to reconsider an airwave sale in which the winning bidders would have to offer free Internet.  more

Symbian Components to be Offered as Open Source Software

Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Motorola and NTT DoCoMo announced today their intent to unite Symbian OS, S60, UIQ and MOAP(S) to create one open mobile software platform. Together with AT&T, LG Electronics, Samsung Electronics, STMicroelectronics, texas Instruments and Vodafone they plan to establish the Symbian Foundation to extend the appeal of this unified software platform.  more

EARNINGS PREVIEW: Nokia 1Q Net Profit Seen Up 42% to EUR1.39 Billion

STOCKHOLM -(Dow Jones)- Nokia, the world's largest handset maker by sales, is expected Thursday to report a 42% increase in first-quarter net profit to EUR1.39 billion compared with EUR979 million in the year-earlier period, according to a Factset poll of 22 analysts.  more
