Huawei Opens LTE Laboratory in North America
Huawei has announced the opening of a Long Term Evolution (LTE) laboratory located in texas, USA. Initially established with prototype equipment in the autumn of 2008, the facility has been upgraded to fully support commercial product releases for North America. The lab recently implemented Huawei's first commercial LTE solution release targeted at operators in the United States and Canada. Additionally, local research and development teams are now able to work more closely with North American operators to rigorously test LTE systems before delivery. more

Mobile Linux Trade Bodies Agree to Merge
The Linux Phone Standards (LiPS) Forum has announced that its activities and membership are to be folded into follow Mobile Linux forum, the LiMo Foundation from the end of this month. In a joint statement, they said that this pooling of efforts and resources reflects the industry-wide trend towards unification of Linux-based mobile telephony platforms and will serve to accelerate the emergence of common mobile Linux specifications and implementations. more

French Mobile Market Creates 100,000 Jobs
The size of the French mobile telephony market reached almost €22 billion in 2007 and was the source of 100,000 direct and indirect jobs in France. By the end of 2007, investment in mobile telecoms networks in France totalled almost €33 billion, according to the French Association of Mobile Operators. more
