Mobile Linux developer, Azingo is demonstrating its Azingo Mobile Linux platform on the Texas Instruments OMAP platform at Computex in Taiwan. The two companies are collaborating to provide mobile phone and internet device manufacturers with a cost-effective Linux platform based on LiMo Foundation software. That platform - featuring touch screen Internet browsing, web widget applications, audio, video and personalized user applications - will be demonstrated on a device featuring a TI OMAP3430 application processor. more

Wireless Semiconductors Outgrow Overall Chip Market in 2007
Riding the momentum of continued strong demand growth for mobile handsets, sales of semiconductors for wireless products rose at a faster pace than the overall chip market in 2007, according to iSuppli. The global wireless semiconductor market generated $29.5 billion in revenue in 2007, up 7.6 percent from $27.4 billion in 2006. These figures consist of revenue from sales of application-specific semiconductors - excluding memory - for wireless applications, including mobile handsets, wireless infrastructure equipment, wireless LANs and connectivity products. more

Wireless-Chip Market Outpaced Wireline-Chip Market in 2007
Growing adoption of 3G technologies and feature-rich cell-phone chips led to a 13% increase in sales of cellular baseband processors in 2007, according to The Linley Group. Sales of networking chips, in contrast, declined by about 1% during the same period according to their new report. The slowdown in wired-communications chips is also reflected in the FPGA market as sales of FPGAs for communications systems declined 7%. more

TI Launches Digital to Analog Convertor for 3G Networks
Texas Instruments has introduced a 16-bit, dual channel, 800 MSPS digital-to-analog converter (DAC). The DAC5688 expands on TI's portfolio of full-featured DACs and represents a 67 percent space reduction over the previous generation. Offered in a 64-pin 9 mm x 9 mm QFN package, the DAC5688 features enhanced performance to support existing 3G applications, including WCDMA and China's 3G standard, TD-SCDMA, and emerging applications including WiMAX and LTE. For instance, for an output frequency of 70 MHz, the device achieves 81 dBC ACLR for a single-carrier WCDMA application. more
