Smartphone Content Sales Statistics for 2006

The smartphone software retailer, Handango has released special 2006 year end editions of the Handango Yardstick, a global report on the state of the smartphone content industry. More than 11,000 new software titles were added to the Handango catalog in 2006, with 1,231 new mobile content providers joining the Handango Content Partner Program. Although currently one of the smaller catalogs, BlackBerry had the fastest growing content library with an 81% increase over last year in the number of new applications added. The Pocket PC platform saw the highest number of content titles added at 3,627. more

Tetris and Pac-Man Dominate Mobile Games Sales

Nearly 13.5 million USA mobile subscribers downloaded a game in Q2 2006, representing average monthly revenues of US$46.9 million for the quarter, according to Telephia. Since Q3 2005, the number of subscribers who downloaded mobile games from the operator portal has increased by 15 percent. During that same time period revenues jumped 63 percent.  more

Women Drive More Than Two-Thirds of Mobile Game Revenues

Puzzle/Strategy games drive one-third of the total mobile game revenues, according to Telephia. The Telephia Mobile Game Report for Q1 2006 shows that four of the top five revenue-generating titles fall into the Puzzle/Strategy category, with tetris, tetris Deluxe and Bejeweled securing the top spots. tetris and tetris Deluxe secured 5.2 and 3.6 percent of the total mobile game revenue share for the quarter, respectively, while Bejeweled posted a 2.6 percent share. JAMDAT Mahjong and Ms. Pac-Man, rounded out the top five with shares of 2.2 and two percent, respectively. more

Women buy more games on their mobile phones - report

Newly released data from Telephia reveals that women buy more games for their mobile phones than men, and that certain games are much more popular among women. During the three months of February through April 2005, women bought 60% of mobile games compared to 40% for men. more
