Canada's Telus Quarterly Profits Down Slightly

­Canada's telus Corp. has reported 3rd-quarter profits of C$280 million (US$263 million), a decrease of 2% on the year ago period. Excluding income tax-related adjustments, net profit was down seven percent, and when further excluding restructuring costs profits were down two percent.  more

Three-Quarters of Canadian children are Internet savvy before age seven

Three-quarters of Canadian children in families with access to the internet are deemed to be proficient at visiting websites by the age of seven, reports a survey commissioned by Canadian telco, telus. Additionally, the majority of Canadian parents (69 per cent) think it's important for children to be technology-savvy from an early age. In addition, 44 per cent of fathers believe limiting their children's use of technology will hold them back.  more

Telus Expands Retail Outlets Through Aquisition

­Canadian telco, telus has acquired Black's Photo Corp., Canada's premier national imaging and digital retailer, from privately owned ReichmannHauer Capital Partners. The value of the transaction is approximately CA$28 million.  more

Telus Q2 Profits Down 9% as Subscriber Spending Falls

Canada's telus Corp has reported a 9% drop in second-quarter profits to C$244 million ($236 million). Revenues fell by 1% to C$2.38 billion over the same period. The one percent decrease in revenues reflects continued declines in voice revenues that more than offset growth in data revenues.  more

Telus Net Profits Up on Tax Gains - Warns on Outlook

Canada's telus has reported a slight increase of CA$25 million in first-quarter revenues to reach CA$2.38 billion (US$2 billion) - while net profits rose by 10% to CA$322 million (US$274 million). The increase in revenues was driven primarily by three per cent growth in wireless revenue and six per cent growth in wireline data revenue, more than offsetting the ongoing declines in local and long distance wireline revenues.  more

Telus Announces HSPA Upgrade for Alberta

Canada's telus has announced a 2009 capital plan to invest more than CA$700 million (US$570 million) focused primarily on advanced wireless and wireline broadband infrastructure in Alberta. This investment is expected to support more than 2,100 jobs. Since 2000, telus has made more than $18 billion in capital and operating expenditures in the province.  more

Telus Warns of Falling ARPU Due to Economic Downturn

Canada's telus has warned that its first quarter wireless segment financial results are expected to be adversely impacted by lower than expected wireless net additions and average revenue per unit (ARPU). Wireless operating results are being impacted by a weak macro-economic environment, reflect the acceleration of a negative trend first observed in the fourth quarter of 2008, and are below telus' expectations.  more
