Telstra Full-Year Profits Up 10 Percent

Australia's dominant telco, telstra has reported that its full financial year revenues rose by 2.7 percent to AU$25.51 billion (US$21.1 billion). Excluding the impact of the sale of KAZ in April 2009, total revenue grew by 3 percent. Net profit rose by 10 percent to AU$4.1 billion (US$3.4 billion). The company generated free cash flow of AU$4.4 billion, a 13 percent increase on the prior year.  more

Telstra Orders Mobile Data Analytics Platform

Australia's telstra has ordered a mobile internet traffic analytics platform from Openwave Systems to provide it with a dashboard view of all aspects of aggregated mobile subscriber data activity. Openwave Mobile Analytics empowers telstra to aggregate subscriber data and behavioural information across a variety of data sources, including on portal and open internet browsing, device type, demographics and geographic location.  more

Telstra Upgrades Mobile Data Speeds

Australian network operator, telstra has upgraded its Ericsson supplied network to support peak network uplink speeds of 5.8Mbps. Michael Rocca, Group Managing Director, telstra Networks & Services, said the increased uplink speeds complement the world leading download speeds available in the network since the deployment of HSPA+ technology across the Next G network footprint late last year.  more

Aussies choose SMS to announce life events

Australians are a text crazy nation. According to a survey commissioned by Australian telco, telstra, one in three said they choose SMS to communicate major life events - compared to using the phone, email or social networking sites. The report also found we are more likely to SMS news of a birth, (25%), or a promotion, (18%) compared to other major life events.  more

Telstra Names Insider as New CEO - Chairman Resigns

Australia's telstra has announced that its Group Managing Director of Enterprise and Government, David Thodey is to take over the helm of the company once current CEO Sol Trujillo leaves at the end of June. At the same time, it has been announced that the company Chairman, Donald McGauchie has resigned with immediate effect and is to be replaced by Catherine Livingstone, a board member since 2000.  more

Dialog Telekom Testing HSPA+ Upgrade in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka's Dialog Telekom is reported to have started a pilot launch of a HSPA+ (HSPA Evolution) upgrade on its network, which will boost download speeds to a peak rate of 21Mbps. The typical download speeds are closer to 8Mbps in real life tests carried out by Australia's telstra network.  more
