Motorola, Nokia Closer to Recovering Missing $3.4 Billion from Uzan Family
Motorola and Nokia are reported to have found the hiding place for some of the missing US$3.4 billion that was awarded to them in a long running lawsuit against the Turkish Uzan family. In a filing with the US court, the two companies claim that Cypriot shell company Libananco Holdings is a front for the Uzans. more

3G License Granted in Northern Cyprus
The telecoms authority for the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) has granted a 3G license to Turkish operator, Turkcell last Friday. Turkcell launched its network in Northern Cyprus in July 1999. Vodafone, which through its acquisition of Turkey's telsim also operates a GSM network in Northern Cyprus is also expected to be granted a 3G license shortly. more

US Court Upholds Uzan Lawsuit Award
An appeals court in the USA has upheld a damages award worth US$1 billion in favour of Motorola against the Turkish Uzan family. The Uzans had controlled the Turkish mobile phone company, until it was brought down by lawsuits from Motorola and Nokia who were demanding repayment of vendor loans for equipment that they had supplied. more
