Asia Pacific Operators in Q3 '07: CDMA staging a revival?
The three months ended September 30th saw a record number of new connections in the Asia Pacific region. Overall, nearly 85 million new customers were connected which is very nearly as many as Germany, Europe's largest economy, has added in the 22 years since mobile service started. The vast majority of these chose to adopt either GSM or WCDMA technology, these two accounting for 66.1m and 9.4m of the total respectively. more

Top 10 Operators in Asia-Pacific: Bharti set to overtake DoCoMo
At the end of September, there were 20 networks in the world with more than 30 million customers. Eight of these were in the Asia Pacific region including the largest and the second largest. Six of the 20 come from just two countries, China and India, and these six together account for over 650 million customers, or nearly 21% of the global total. more

Ericsson Ships Solar-Powered Base Station to Indonesia
Ericsson says that it has deployed a solar-powered remote GSM base station in Indonesia with telkomsel. The deployment will provide macro coverage in the untapped areas of Sumatra and address the mobile communications needs in the rural areas in Indonesia. more

SingTel's regional subscriber base up 57% to cross 150-million mark
Singapore based SingTel has announced that the aggregate number of mobile subscribers in the region, including its associates, has reached 157.97 million as at 30 September 2007. On a year-on-year basis, its mobile subscriber base in the eight markets - Australia, Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Pakistan, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand - grew strongly by 57 per cent from about 100.77 million customers. Warid Telecom, its latest investment in Pakistan, contributed 11.87 million subscribers. more

Nokia Siemens Wins Indonesian Billing Contract
Indonesia's telkomsel is extending the agreement with Nokia Siemens Networks on convergent online charging. Nokia Siemens Networks provides telkomsel with its convergent charging solution, charge@once premium, supporting voice and data services. The contract enables telkomsel to extend its charging capacity of approximately 38 million subscribers with additional 10.5 million subscribers. more

No fewer than 16 companies added more than 5 million customers over the course of the twelve months ended June 07. China Mobile heads the list with a massive 58.6 million customers - as many as the next three operators put together, and then some. As we have suggested before, it would take a genuinely radical restructuring of China's communications industry to threaten the company's world leading position and that seems unlikely. more

Indonesia's Telkomsel Debt Ratings Held at Stable
The debt agency, Fitch Ratings has affirmed the Long-term foreign and local currency Issuer Default Ratings of Indonesia's telkomsel at 'BB' and 'BBB-' (BBB minus), respectively. At the same time, Fitch has affirmed telkomsel's National Long-term rating at 'AAA(idn)'. The Outlook on all the ratings remains Stable. more

SingTel Regional Subscriber Base Reaches 124 Million
Singapore Telecommunications (SingTel) has announced that the aggregate number of mobile subscribers in the region, including its associates, has increased to 124 million as at 31 March 2007. This is the largest mobile customer base in Asia outside of China. Compared to a year ago, the combined mobile subscriber base of SingTel, SingTel Optus and the Group's five regional associates grew 46 per cent or by 39 million subscribers. more
