Fitch: Teliasonera Is Currently A Safer Credit Than Telenor
Fitch Ratings says that teliasonera is currently a safer credit than Telenor. This is due to teliasonera's larger exposure to the stable Nordic region, higher EBITDA margin and more comfortable competitive positions in emerging markets. Combined with the uncertainty over how Telenor could proceed in bringing its current 0.6x leverage in line with the company's increased cap of 2.0x, this indicates to Fitch that teliasonera currently has a safer credit profile. more

EU calls on mobile operators to continue to improve child safety policies
Half of 10 year-old, 87% of 13 year-old and 95% of 16 year-old children in the EU have a mobile phone, but half of European parents worry mobile phone use might expose their children to sexually and violently explicit images (51%) or bullying by other children (49%), according to a survey. The European Commission has now called on mobile operators to do more to keep children safe while using mobile phones by putting in place all the measures in the voluntary code of conduct, signed by 26 mobile operators in 2007. more

3G Operator, Hi3G Granted 900Mhz Spectrum in Sweden
The Swedish Post and Telecom Agency (PTS) has made the decision to approve an application from the operators teliasonera, Swefour, Tele2, Telenor and Hi3G for frequencies in the 900 MHz band. The present licences in the 900 MHz band will be renewed and it will be possible for the operators to phase in new technology for mobile broadband while at the same time continuing to offer GSM mobile telephony. more

Sweden Proposes Allocating 900Mhz Spectrum to 3G Operator
Sweden's telecoms regulator, the Swedish Post and Telecom Agency (PTS) has decided to distribute a proposed decision concerning the GSM900 band for consultation. The proposal involves the renewal of existing licences in the 900 MHz band, but also that the entire frequency space available in the 900 MHz band should be allocated, which would enable 3G operator, Hi3G to gain access to frequency space in the 900 MHz band. In addition, it would be possible for operators to progress to new technology and supply wireless broadband to a greater extent. more
