Court Blocks MegaFon-Turkcell Merger
Moscow's court of appeal has blocked a planned merger between Russia's MegaFon and Turkey's Turkcell, citing a law that blocks foreign entities from gaining control of strategic enterprises. This is the second rejection of the planned merger after MegaFon's largest single shareholder, Telecominvest - owned by Russian oligarch, Alisher Usmanov - also sued to block the merger earlier this year, citing the same law. more

Altimo and TeliaSonera to appeal the ruling of the Moscow Court
In November 2009, Russia's Altimo and Sweden's teliasonera agreed on certain conditions for a merger of their ownership interests by contributing their respective direct and indirect interests in Turkcell and Megafon into a new company, with well functioning corporate governance.
