­India's Cabinet Committee of Economic Affairs (CCEA) has announced that greenfield operator, Unitech Wireless' application to increase its foreign shareholding up to 74% has been approved. The application was earlier approved by the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) in August 2009.  more

Fitch Ratings has today affirmed the Norwegian incumbent telecoms operator telenor's Long-term Issuer Default Rating (IDR) and senior unsecured rating at 'BBB+' and affirmed the Short-term IDR at 'F2'. The Outlook is Negative.  more

Telenor Q1 Net Profit Drops by 65%

Norway's telenor Group has reported that its first-quarter profits slumped by 65% to NOK1.62 billion (US$250 million) from NOK 4.57 billion (US$700 million) a year ago. Revenues rose by 6.8% though to reach NOK24.78 billion (US$3.8 billion) according to a statement from the company. However, EBITDA rose to NOK 7.84 billion (US$1.2 billion) before foreign exchange losses.  more

Telenor Rumoured to be Close to $1.5 Billion Indian Deal

Norway-based telenor has reportedly been in talks with Indian greenfield operator, Unitech Wireless to take a stake in the firm worth up to US$1.5 billion. Earlier reports that Telecom Italia was also seeking to take a stake in the firm fell to nothing. Kuwait's Zain is also understood to be in talks to take a stake in the Indian company - but is thought to be holding out for a majority stake.  more
