Industry to Settle on a Generic Phone Charger for All Mobile Phones
The GSMA and 17 mobile operators and manufacturers have announced that they are committed to implementing a cross-industry standard for a universal charger for new mobile phones. The aim of the initiative, led by the GSMA, is to ensure that the mobile industry adopts a common format for mobile phone charger connections and energy-efficient chargers resulting in an estimated 50 per cent reduction in standby energy consumption and the potential elimination of up to 51,000 tonnes of duplicate chargers. more

Operators Collaborate On Single API for Secure Mobile Applications
A group of mobile operators today unveiled a new initiative to create a blueprint and roadmap for opening up mobile functionality to encourage the development of mobile applications without compromising customer security. The new initiative will be known as BONDI. Supported by the OMTP members including 3 Group, AT&T, T-Mobile, telenor, Telefonica, Telecom Italia and Vodafone, BONDI will provide a consistent and secure web services interface that can be used by all web developers across multiple device platforms. more

The GSM Association says that the winning handset in the GSMA's "3G for All programme", the LG-KU250, is now on sale across the globe.
