EU calls on mobile operators to continue to improve child safety policies
Half of 10 year-old, 87% of 13 year-old and 95% of 16 year-old children in the EU have a mobile phone, but half of European parents worry mobile phone use might expose their children to sexually and violently explicit images (51%) or bullying by other children (49%), according to a survey. The European Commission has now called on mobile operators to do more to keep children safe while using mobile phones by putting in place all the measures in the voluntary code of conduct, signed by 26 mobile operators in 2007. more

Telenor Launches Mobile Phone Recycling Programme
Norway's telenor has announced that it is introducing a buyback/recycling scheme for mobile phones. According to telenor's calculations at least four million used mobile phones are lying around collecting dust in Norwegian homes. Presently 82 per cent of Norwegian households have at least one mobile phone extra that they are not using. It is only a dismal 12 per cent of consumers that recycle mobile phones. Since mobile phones are not being returned for recycling, mobile phone manufacturers are forced to extract new materials, in stead of just using the resources already available in used mobile phones. more

Nordic partnership agreement between Telenor and Elisa
telenor Sweden says that it has signed a Nordic partnership agreement with Finnish telecommunication company Elisa. The agreement covers the common development, marketing and support for communication solutions to large and medium-sized companies in the Nordic market. more

Telenor Offers Banking Security via Mobile Phones
Norwegian operator, telenor has announced that BankID for mobile phones is now available. This is an electronic identification and signature solution where the security elements are saved on the SIM card of the mobile phone. This will make banking and payment services available to Norwegians no matter where they are in the world. more

Malaysian Operator Launches HSPA Enabled 3G Network
Malaysian mobile network operator, DiGi Telecommunications has launched its HSPA network - covering Damansara, Petaling Jaya, Subang Jaya, Sunway and Bangsar. Customers in other key areas of Klang Valley will be able to experience DiGi's broadband service within weeks. DiGi plans to cover more than 1,000 zones at a minimum of 5 market centres by the end of this year. more
