Indonesia's XL Loses 1 Million Customers
Indonesia's PT Excelcomindo Pratama (XL) has reported a drop in its subscriber base by around a million customers during the first quarter. The company put this down to a decision to raise the purchase price of its prepay SIM cards. more

Asia Pacific Operators in Q3 '07: CDMA staging a revival?
The three months ended September 30th saw a record number of new connections in the Asia Pacific region. Overall, nearly 85 million new customers were connected which is very nearly as many as Germany, Europe's largest economy, has added in the 22 years since mobile service started. The vast majority of these chose to adopt either GSM or WCDMA technology, these two accounting for 66.1m and 9.4m of the total respectively. more

Telekom Malaysia Q1 2007 Results
We have commented before on the effectiveness of Telekom Malaysia's strategy of expansion into its immediate geographic region and the portfolio of businesses it has built up now contributes more than one quarter of total revenues. However, one of the problems of international diversification is that it brings a currency risk with it. This quarter, the results reflect the combination of a rising Ringgit and increased competition and as a consequence, revenues from the international side of the business are down slightly at RM1,138m. This is a drop of less than 2% on Q4's RM1,158m, so it is hardly catastrophic, especially when it is remembered that it is more than 20% up on the same quarter of 2006. more

Indonesia's Excelcomindo Pratama (XL) has commercially launched its 3G network. XL3G, which has passed the government's Operational Feasibility Test (ULO) last month, will initially be introduced in six Indonesian cities: Jabotabek, Medan, Batam, Bandung, Surabaya, and Denpasar. more

Telekom Malaysia, through its investment arm, TM International is buying control of the Indonesian operator, PT Excelcomindo Pratama ("XL") from the Rajawali Group the principal shareholders of PT Excelcomindo Pratama. more
