Second Bangladeshi Operator Plans Stock Market Listing
Bangladeshi mobile phone network operator, AKTEL has confirmed that it still intends to list its shares on the local stock market. The company is 70% owned by Telekom Malaysia International and the 30% remaining is currently in the process of being sold by A.K. Khan to Japan's DoCoMo for around US$350 million. more

IN DEPTH: Telecom Malaysia International Q1 2008 Results
TM International, the former mobile arm of Telekom Malaysia, has reported results independently for the first time, despite only having been demerged from the parent company at the end of April. Telekom Malaysia has been preparing for the spin-off for some time, transferring all of the relevant assets into the TM International division, including domestic mobile concern Celcom, before issuing paper in the new company to its own shareholders. This demerger process was completed on 25th April and trading began on the new TMI stock on the Bursa Malaysia on 28t h April. After initially trading at just over RM7,500 the share price has stayed very steady, with a maximum variation of around 7%. more

DoCoMo Bidding for Stake in Bangladesi Operator
Japan's DoCoMo is reported to have offered to buy the 30% stake in Bangladesh's Aktel which is currently owned by AK Khan, a privately owned textiles-to-telecoms company - and has been valued at around US$300 million. The move may be bad news for Vodafone which has previously reported to be negotiating to enter the Bangladeshi market through an acquisition of the same stake. more

Vodafone Increases Talks Over Bangladeshi Investment
Vodafone is reported to be in talks with Bangladesh's third-largest mobile phone network, Aktel to acquire a 30% stake for around US$300 million. The UK's Daily Telegraph newspaper said that the company has been assured that its plans to buy the stake from from AK Khan, a privately owned textiles-to-telecoms company would be cleared by the regulator. more

Report into Bangladesh Mobile Market
BIS Shrapnel, has launched its Bangladesh Mobile Telecommunication, 2005 report. Report author Mr Priyam Shah explains that Bangladesh's mobile phone market has achieved exceptional growth since the beginning of 2004, registering a massive 100% growth in its subscriber base during 2004, and 137% during 2005. This trend is forecast to continue over the coming years, bringing the subscriber base to 18 million by 2007. more
