Vodafone in Talks to Take Stake in Telekom Malaysia

Vodafone is reported to be the front runner to take a 25% stake in Telekom Malaysia's (TM) mobile phone division when the company is separated from its landline parent in the second quarter of next year. Telekom Malaysia is creating a new company, RegionCo which will include TM's regional mobile operations under TM International, and domestic mobile operations under Celcom.  more

WiMAX Network Launched in the Sri Lanka

Fitch Says "No Change" Following Telekom Malaysia Mobile DeMerger

Fitch Ratings has today commented that the 'A-' (A minus) Long-term Issuer Default Rating and instrument ratings assigned to Telekom Malaysia and its US dollar bonds are unlikely to change as a consequence of the company's announcement that it is pursuing a de-merger of its mobile and fixed line telecom businesses. Telekom Malaysia to Sell Off Mobile Operations

As reported here yesterday, Telekom Malaysia has confirmed plans to split the company's mobile and fixed line businesses into two distinct entities. The company says that the underlying objective of the proposed demerger is to "accelerate operational improvements and growth through clearer strategic and organisational focus and further unlock shareholder value".  more

Telekom Malaysia - Slower growth and increasing uncertainties

Telekom Malaysia's second quarter results show that the company has managed to translate a single digit increase in revenues into a double digit gain at the attributable level, despite a small decrease in margins at the EBITDA level. Overall revenue rose from RM 4,181m in Q1 to RM 4,318m, an increase of 3.3%, while EBITDA dropped 2.9% to RM 1,979m. After tax and minorities, attributable profit rose by 17.6% to RM 701m. Year on year, these equate to increases of 8.6%, 17.6% and 54.7% respectively.  more

Telekom Malaysia Opens IMS Tech Center Using Ericsson Kit

Telekom Malaysia's research subsidiary, Telekom Research & Development (TMR&D) has announced a collaboration program with Ericsson to develop IP Multimedia Subsytem-based (IMS) applications and establish a pool of local experts with IMS competence in Malaysia. Under this agreement, Ericsson will supply the equipment, solution and support for TMR&D to establish a live Next Generation Network (NGN) with IMS capability as a development test bed. more
