Telekom Austria Drops into Quarterly Loss

­Telekom Austria Group has reported a 7.3% drop in its 3rd-quarter revenues compared to a year ago to EUR 1.23 billion (US$1.85 billion). Operating income in 3Q 09 fell by EUR 386.4 million to an operating loss of EUR 126.4 million.  more

Telekom Austria Outlines $2.1 Billion in Network Upgrades

The Telekom Austria Group has announced that over the next 4 years, it will invest a total of EUR 1.5 billion (US$2.1 billion) in the Austrian telecommunications infrastructure. Of the spend, EUR 1 billion will go on the landline network, with EUR500 million being spent on the mobile network.  more

Telekom Austria May Spin-Off Landline Operations

It is being reported that Telekom Austria Group could look to divest its landline division into a separate company so that the overall company is not held back by legacy issues from its time as a state-owned company. When the company was originally floated, the staff were given civil servant grades along with commensurate benefits and salary - including a guarantee of no redundancies.  more

Telekom Austria Fixed-Mobile Subscriber Base Reaches 250,000

The Telekom Austria Group has announced that its Fixed Net subsidiary, Telekom Austria, has reached the 250,000 customer mark with its mobile telephony service ‘aonMobil' as of May 2009. ‘aonMobil' is Austria's most rapidly growing mobile offering: in a year-on-year comparison, ‘aonMobil' subscribers increased by more than six times from 2007 to 2008, and from January 2009 to date, total subscribers increased by 133%.  more

Telekom Austria Quarterly Profit Drops by a Third

Telekom Austria Group has seen a five percent drop in first-quarter revenues to EUR 1.2 billion (US$1.6 billion) primarily due to lower revenues in the landline division. Net profits dropped by 34% to EUR 85.3 million (US$116.2 million) compared to EUR 129.7 million a year ago. EBITDA decreased by 6.4% to EUR 454.8 million (US$620 million) due to weaker contribution from mobile phones division while landlines grows slightly.  more

Telekom Austria Group to Offer Mobile Broadband Services in Belarus

The Telekom Austria Group has announced that Velcom, its Belarusian mobile subsidiary, will offer mobile broadband to its customers in cooperation with Belcel, a mobile communication service provider. The service will be based on CDMA 450/EV-DO Rev, a technology with data rates of up to 3.1 Mbit/s.  more

Serbia's Vip Mobile Passes 1 Million Subscriber Mark

Austria Gets Europe's First HSPA+ Mobile Data Network

Telekom Austria's mobile subsidiary, mobilkom austria, has become the first operator in Europe to launch HSPA+ services - offering a potential mobile data download speed of 21 Mbps. In a first step, HSPA+ will be rolled-out in Vienna's 10th district, with further hotspots following throughout the country by the second quarter of 2009.  more

Telekom Austria Names its New CEO

Telekom Austria has announced that Hannes Ametsreiter is to take up the role of Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of the Telekom Austria Group and Chief Executive Officer of mobilkom austria as of April 1, 2009. He is replacing Boris Nemsic who is leaving to head up Russian operator, VimpelCom.  more

Telekom Austria CEO makes a Beeline for Russia

Telekom Austria has lost its CEO, Boris Nemsic to the Russia based telco,VimpelCom . He will be switching companies at the end of the month.  Nemsic, who has been CEO of Telekom Austria Group since 2006, has informed the chairing committee of the supervisory board of his resignation as of March 31, 2009.  more
