Telefonica Raises Offer for Portugal Telecom's Brazilian Assets

Portugal Telecom has confirmed that telefonica has raised its offer for PT's share in their Brazilian joint venture, Vivo Participacoes from EUR5.7 billion (US$7 billion) to EUR6.5 billion (US$8 billion). telefonica is also offering two alternatives, one for the immediate sale of its entire stake and another to be executed at PT's sole discretion during a three year period.  more

Industry to Settle on a Generic Phone Charger for All Mobile Phones

The GSMA and 17 mobile operators and manufacturers have announced that they are committed to implementing a cross-industry standard for a universal charger for new mobile phones. The aim of the initiative, led by the GSMA, is to ensure that the mobile industry adopts a common format for mobile phone charger connections and energy-efficient chargers resulting in an estimated 50 per cent reduction in standby energy consumption and the potential elimination of up to 51,000 tonnes of duplicate chargers.  more

IPWireless Sold to its Management

IPWireless was been sold to its management by its parent company, NextWave Wireless and secured long term financing with a significant (if unnamed) strategic partner. IPWireless was founded in 1999 and was acquired in May, 2007 by NextWave Wireless and became part of the NextWave Network Products division. In an announcement on December 26, 2008 NextWave disclosed that it had sold 75 percent of IPWireless to IPW Holdings, an entity formed by the senior IPWireless management team.  more
