Possible Delay to Mexican Radio Spectrum Auction

A Mexican court has accepted an appeal by MVS Comunicaciones and Iusacell and ordered a delay to the planned radio spectrum auction. The two companies had argued that the current bidding rules were unfair. A further hearing is to be held and a decision whether the auction can proceed is expected by mid-week.  more

Telefonica Chairman Cleared of Insider Trading on Technicality

telefonica's Chairman, Cesar Alierta has been cleared on a technicality of insider trading allegations dating from before he joined the company. Madrid's Supreme Court ruled that he had in fact benefited from trading in shares using insider information, but also said that too much time had elapsed for criminal charges to be filed.  more

Telefonica's Chairman Due in Court on Insider Trading Allegations

telefonica's Chairman, Cesar Alierta is expected to appear in court today as trial commences concerning a job he held at a tobacco company ten years ago. The Spanish prosecutor is alleging that he knew of an impending takeover of the tobacco firm, Tabacalera by US based Havatampa - and profited by US$2.5 million from share purchases just prior to the announcement.  more

Chile Publishes Details of 3G License Tender

The Chilean telecoms regulator, Subtel has published the tender details for a round of 3G licenses, which it anticipates will bring a new entrant into the market. The auction for the licenses is due to be held in July, a notice on the regulators website announced.  more
