Who are the Fastest Growing Networks in Caribbean/Latin America?
The majority of the names on the list of the leading operators in Caribbean and Latin America (CALA) by customer numbers reappear on the list of the fastest growing - but not the first on the list. This is minor Mexican player Iusacell, which recorded 1.7m additions to take its total to 3.9m. However, the numbers have to be treated with caution - the vast majority of this growth came from the acquisition of Unefon which closed during the quarter. Without this, the number of new connections would have been below 0.5m - not enough to take a place in the top ten, let alone first. more

There has not been any change to the ten largest companies in the Caribbean and Latin America over the last quarter region and in fact, neither has there been any change to the overall positioning. However, the quarterly rate of growth that these ten companies are achieving varies quite dramatically - from a low of -0.1% to a high of 16% - so it is likely that there will be changes in the future. As before, America Movil owns four of the top ten and Telefonica three, while Telecom Italia controls one and has a minority interest in another. The last of the ten is independent, or rather, is the mobile subsidiary of a Brazilian regional wireline operator. more
