Four Firms Bidding for Rwanda's 3rd GSM License
Four companies have been shortlisted to bid for Rwanda's third mobile license, the Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Agency (RURA) has announced. Thirteen companies had purchased tender documents from the regulator, but most chose not to submit a formal bid. more

Zambia selects winner of fourth cellular license
Zambia's Communications Authority has said that South Africa's Vodacom is the sole bidder for the country's fourth cellular license. Vodacom has offered to pay US$100,000 for the license which is being awarded in order to try and expand cellular service outside the cities into the rural areas. The two privately owned networks, telecel and Celtel had secured a court order blocking the license tender, but recently withdrew from their court action. Having offered to buy the license, Vodacom has still to show that it can meet the regulators demands for rural coverage before it is formally awarded the license." more
