Tele2 Sale of Austrian MVNO Referred to Cartel Body

Austria's federal cartel office (BWB) has asked the country's cartel court to issue a ruling on Telekom Austria's intended purchase of tele2's MVNO customer base. The Austrian press agency (APA) has  reported that the BWB's initial assessment of the purchase could have a negative impact on the competition in the market.  more

Telecel shuts down TDMA network

Paraguayan mobile operator Telecel, which operates under the Tigo brand, was due to shut down its TDMA network on January 3 and end its tele2 service, local paper La Naciƃ³n reported company general manager Miguel Blasco as saying.  more

Tele2 Croatia Awarded Additional GSM Spectrum

tele2 has announed that its subsidiary, tele2 Croatia has been awarded a 900 MHz EGSM frequency. The frequency fee, which will be recorded in Croatian Kuna, is approximately SEK 3.2 million (US$487,000) on an annual basis. The new frequency spectrum was available to tele2 Croatia as of 17 December 2007.  more

Tele2 Wins 3G License in Norway

tele2 says that its jointly owned network company Mobile Norway (formerly AMI AS) has been allocated a 3G license in Norway. Mobile Norway, that was allocated the new 3G-license, is 50/50 owned by tele2 Norway and Network Norway. Phase one of the joint venture build-out of Norway's third GSM network is ongoing, and the 3G-license will further enhance the network.  more

Lithuania Q3 07 Market Update - Tele2 Bucks the Downward Trend

At the end of Q3 07, the Lithuanian mobile market had reached 4.79 million customers, a penetration rate of 134.1%. Net additions stood at just 14.4k for the quarter. This is in fact the best result since the same quarter last year, as Q1 and Q2 both saw declines in the total customer base in excess of 50k, while just 1.2k new customers were added in Q4 06. However, a quarterly growth rate of 0.3% does not exactly represent a great success, and the fact that the total customer base has declined by 2.2% since the end of Q3 2006 serves to indicate that a turnaround seems unlikely.  more

Tele2 to Take SEK3.5 Billion Impairment Charge in 3Q

STOCKHOLM -(Dow Jones)- tele2 Monday said it plans to book a SEK3.5 billion ($540.93 million) loss from goodwill and other assests during the third quarter, largely due to the purchase of fixed-line operator Societe Europeenne de Communication, or SEC, in 2000, but shares rose in early trading following news over the weekend the operator reached a deal to sell its Spanish and Italian operations to Vodafone Group.  more
