Tiscali Shares Soar on Vodafone EUR1.6 Billion Bid Report

Tele2 Names Replacement CEO

tele2 has announced that Harri Koponen is to replace Lars-Johan Jarnheimer as President and CEO of the company from this August. Harri Koponen has a strong industry background from his previous roles as President and CEO at Wataniya Telecom, deputy CEO and president of International Operations at TeliaSonera, President and CEO at Sonera Corporation and Executive VP and General Manager for Consumer Products North America at Ericsson.  more

Vodafone Enters Italy's Fixed Broadband Market

Vodafone Buys Outstanding Arcor Shares

Vodafone has confirmed that it is to acquire the 26.4% interest in Germany's Arcor that it does not already own from Deutsche Bahn and Deutsche Bank for a cash consideration of €474 million (US$739 million) - slightly lower than the widely expected €500 million (US$779 million). Vodafone says that the transaction enables it to exploit further the potential synergies available from fixed-mobile integration and to participate more effectively in the continued rapid development of the German broadband market, which is growing at just under 30% per annum.  more

Sweden Finishes "4G" Spectrum Auction

Sweden's telecoms regulator, the PTS has announced that its spectrum auction in the 2.6 GHz band has been concluded, after 16 days of bidding and 112 bidding rounds. Five bidders have won licenses for the total amount of SEK2,099,450,000 (US$348 million).  more

Tele2 Sees 13% Rise in Q1 EBITDA to Just Under $300 Million

tele2 has reported a 9% rise in first quarter operating revenues to SEK10.4 billion (US$1.77 billion) and a 13% rise in EBITDA to SEK1.76 billion (US$298 million). Tele2 Ordered to Pay $84 Million to TeliaSonera
