Tele2 Sells French MVNO to Virgin Mobile

Tele2 Profits Jump on Currency Boost and Customer Growth

tele2 has reported a slight increase in Q2 revenues to SEK 10.13 billion (US$1.32 billion), from SEK 9.83 billion a year ago, while net income jumped from SEK 161 million to SEK 1.14 billion (US$149 million). EBITDA increased by 17 percent to SEK 2.45 billion.  more

Russian Subscriber Growth - On the Brink of a Slowdown?

In the first quarter of 2009, the Russian market surpassed 190m customers and almost reached 135% penetration. The end-quarter total customer base of 190.65m was up by 22.81m year on year and the penetration rate of 134.8% was 16.6pp higher than the year-earlier figure. These are both strong gains, and they seem to indicate that growth is continuing unchecked. However, the quarterly figures suggest that Russia may be on the brink of a slowdown.  more

Switzerland to Permit 3G at 900Mhz - Extends Licenses

Switzerland's telecoms regulator, ComCom has renewed the GSM mobile telephony licences of Orange, Sunrise and Swisscom until the end of 2013. All the countries GSM licences, which were provisionally extended in April 2008, will now all expire at the same time (Swisscom, Sunrise, Orange and In&Phone). This gives ComCom an opportunity to implement a comprehensive reallocation of all the mobile telephony frequencies which are free today or which will become free in 2013 or 2016.  more

Tele2 and Telenor to Jointly Build LTE Network in Sweden

Sweden's tele2 and Telenor have this morning announced plans to jointly build an LTE based network through a new joint-venture company. The new company will be responsible for network construction and sharing of spectrum for mobile communication and plans to start offering commercial services by the end of 2010.  more

Active RAN Sharing Could Save Operators $60 Billion

A new study from ABI Research finds that the worldwide combined OPEX and CAPEX savings from active infrastructure sharing could amount to as much as $60 billion over the next five year period. The study finds that operators could enjoy at least 40% cost savings in addition to those available from passive site sharing.  more

Tele2 Switches Dutch MVNO to T-Mobile

tele2 has announced the signing of a MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator) agreement with T-Mobile for both GSM and 3G mobile services in the Netherlands. Currently tele2 is the largest MVNO in the Netherlands with more than 450,000 mobile customers.  more
