LTE/SAE Trial Initiative Completes TD-LTE Proof of Concept Tests

The LTE/SAE Trial Initiative (LSTI) says that it has successfully completed and reached the objectives of the TD-LTE (LTE tdd) Proof of Concept Milestone 3 and Milestone 4 test phases: Demonstration that the basic LTE/SAE functionality and performance are achievable with pre-standards prototype equipment. Time-Division Duplex (tdd) is the application of time-division multiplexing that separates transmit and receive signals.  more

UK Operators Sharing 3G Spectrum for Mobile TV Trials

Orange and T-Mobile UK have announced they intend to jointly pilot a new mobile TV and multimedia broadcast service in London using NextWave Wireless' 3G MBMS based TDtv solution. The pilot, scheduled for the second half of 2008, is designed to demonstrate how the cost of providing mobile TV services can be significantly reduced when mobile operators share widely-available unpaired 3G spectrum and a standards-based TDtv broadcast network.  more

Analog Supporting Chinese 3G Standard

Analog Devices has announced that China's ZTE Corporation has designed it's SoftFone-LCR chipset and Datang Mobile's solution into its new 3G TD-SCDMA U310 handset and MU100 data card. Analog Devices' SoftFone-LCR chipset is based on the popular RAM-based SoftFone architecture also used in Analog Devices' GSM/GPRS and EDGE chipsets. The chipset incorporates a digital baseband processor, which is based on Analog Devices' Blackfin Processor, achieving more than 250 MHz performance and exceptionally low power consumption through Blackfin's Dynamic Power Management capability. more

Dual mode 3G antennas

Andrew Corporation and IPWireless have jointly developed a product enables them to combine transmission of two 3G radio technologies onto a single cell site antenna. This new duplexer allows wireless operators to deploy both UMTS Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) and UMTS Time Division Duplex (tdd) systems using a single antenna, efficiently taking full advantage of their 3G spectrum to deploy new broadband services and offload traffic from their circuit switched networks. Now commercially available, the UMTS FDD/tdd duplexer has already been proven in a number of trials across Europe, and will be used by a number of operators including the recently announced UMTS tdd deployment by Sonaecom in Portugal. more
