ZTE Tops China Mobile 3G Contract
ZTE is reported to have picked up just over a third of the latest td-scdma tender from China Mobile, reports the Interfax news agency. Huawei won 22% of the contract, while Datang Telecom was awarded 16%. Other equipment manufacturers share the remainder, every company to have 5-6%. more

China Orders Shut-Down of PHS Mobile Phone Networks
China Telecom and China Unicom have been ordered to shut down their low-cost XiaoLingTong mobile telephone system in order to free up the radio spectrum for 3G services. The two companies have been given three years to shut down the networks. more

Chinese 3G Investment to Top $29 Billion
The Chinese government expects that the country's three mobile phone networks will spend at least 200 billion yuan (US$29 billion) on its 3G networks as soon as the licenses are formally awarded - although this is lower than had been expected by some analysts. more

Nokia Siemens and Ericsson May Win 20% of Chinese 3G Tender
China Mobile is expected to announce the winners of its US$4.4 billion 3G network tender, with Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) and Ericsson both expected to receive around 10% of the contract each. The contract is for the second phase of China Mobile's trial td-scdma based service which aims to expand the network to a further 28 cities. more

China to Allocate Additional Spectrum to 3G Networks
It has been reported that China is planning to allocate additional radio spectrum to the homegrown 3G service, by taking it from the low-cost XiaoLingTong local area wireless service. Xie Feipo, from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said that the ministry had asked fixed-line operators to return the PHS radio spectrum so it could be reassigned to the td-scdma network. more

Chinese TD-SCDMA User Base Passes 50,000
Chinese research house, CCID Consulting has reported that at the end of June 2008, China's td-scdma user base had reached 50,000, and that trial commercial users exceeded 8,000. CCID Consulting forecasts that TD terminal users will reach 2.3 million by the end of 2008. more
