Chinese Believe WCDMA Phones Superior to CDMA and TD-SCDMA Models

Qualcomm and Broadcom Wave a Paper and Declare "Peace For Our Time"

The acrimonious patent battle between Qualcomm and Broadcom is finally over. The two firms have entered into a settlement and multi-year patent agreement, which will result in the dismissal with prejudice of all litigation between the companies, including all patent infringement claims in the International Trade Commission and U.S. District Court in Santa Ana, as well as the withdrawal by Broadcom of its complaints to the European Commission and the Korea Fair Trade Commission.  more

Qiao Xing Mobile to Boost 3G Phone Development Staff

China's Qiao Xing Mobile says that it plans to accelerate its 3G mobile phone R&D by adding 200 engineers to its existing R&D team in Beijing in 2009. The new personnel will spearhead the Company's research, design, development and commercialization of 3G handsets, with a focus on td-scdma and WCDMA products.  more

ZTE, Other 3G Device Providers Play Active Role in Deploying 3G Networks in China

CCID, a research firm in China disclosed recently in an industry report which predicted that the rapid deployment of 3G networks in China will eventually result in the creation of about 660,000 3G subscriber lines by Q3 this year. China Unicom Confirms in Talks with Apple of iPhone Sales

China Unicom's chairman Chang Xiaobing has confirmed that the company is in talks with Apple over an option to sell the iPhone handset in the country. He did not elaborate on the talks, citing confidentiality agreements.   more

Nokia Siemens Networks Wins Chinese Contracts Worth $1.1 Billion

China Mobile and China Unicom have separately signed agreements to purchase 2G and 3G mobile equipments and services from Nokia Siemens Networks during 2009. Under the framework agreements Nokia Siemens Networks will roll out WCDMA networks for China Unicom in 11 provinces across China. In addition, it will provide China Mobile with td-scdma and GSM networks.  more

iPhone in China: China Mobile or China Unicom?

Chinese Handset Production Growth Down to Single Figures

China's CCID Consulting has reported that after a period of rapid growth over the past few years, the Chinese mobile handset chips market experienced a conspicuous decline in 2008. The research firm predicts that the scale of Chinese mobile phone chips market is expected to reach RMB 110 billion (US$16 billion), up by 6%, down to single-digit growth for the first time.  more

Nortel Completes LTE-TDD Wireless Demo in China

Nortel says that it has successfully completed the first end-to-end video streaming session using a Time Division Duplex (TDD)-based LTE network, working with commercial grade LTE Base Station and device prototypes in China. This is an important milestone in the development of next generation wireless services for td-scdma mobile network deployments in China, as well as advancing the deployment of LTE for service providers using TDD spectrum.  more
