China Mobile Expecting 80 Million 3G Subscribers by 2011

China Mobile is expected to have up to 80 million subscribers to its 3G network within the next two years, said China's Minister of Industry and Information Technology, Li Yizhong. The company is rolling out a network based on the home-grown td-scdma standard, while its rival networks are allowed to use the international WCDMA and CDMA formats.  more

Alcatel-Lucent Wins Chinese 3G Contract

Alcatel-Lucent says that a local consortium has won a td-scdma contract from China Mobile covering the deployment of its phase III td-scdma mobile networks in 11 provinces. The contract was won by Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell, and Datang Mobile.  more

ZTE Tops China Mobile 3G Contract

ZTE is reported to have picked up just over a third of the latest td-scdma tender from China Mobile, reports the Interfax news agency. Huawei won 22% of the contract, while Datang Telecom was awarded 16%. Other equipment manufacturers share the remainder, every company to have 5-6%.  more

China Wants TD-SCDMA to Take 20% of 3G Market by 2020

The Chinese government is seeking to push its home grown 3G standard overseas and has set a target to take 20 percent of the overseas 3G subscriber market by 2020. The plans were revealed in a long-term development plan for mobile communication drafted by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), an industry expert has told the Interfax news agency.   more

China Mobile Planning $4.6 Billion 3G Spend in Shanghai

China Mobile plans to spend around RMB 31 billion (US$4.6 billion) on its 3G network in Shanghai by 2011, mainly as the city prepares for the World Expo 2010. The investment will create about 3,000 new jobs in the city during the period under a deal signed between China Mobile and the Shanghai government, according to a report in the Shanghai Daily.  more

Henan Mobile Conducts China's first Direct Tunnel trial

Alcatel-Lucent Wins Chinese Contracts Worth $1.7 Billion

Qualcomm and Broadcom Wave a Paper and Declare "Peace For Our Time"

The acrimonious patent battle between Qualcomm and Broadcom is finally over. The two firms have entered into a settlement and multi-year patent agreement, which will result in the dismissal with prejudice of all litigation between the companies, including all patent infringement claims in the International Trade Commission and U.S. District Court in Santa Ana, as well as the withdrawal by Broadcom of its complaints to the European Commission and the Korea Fair Trade Commission.  more
