Bharti Airtel Launches India's Latest 3G Network

­India's Bharti Airtel - now just plain Airtel - has launched its 3G network, with coverage initially in the southern Karnataka state, whose capital is the technology hub of Bangalore. The company expects to offer 3G services in 40 cities by March across all of its 13 licensed areas, and expand the services to 1,500 cities and towns within a year.  more

India - GSM daily adds almost 180k in February as CDMA falters

CDMA net additions in India dropped to their lowest level for nine months in February 2007, as Reliance Infocomm took its foot off the gas after four successive months of net additions over 1m. In total a net 1.14m new CDMA customers were added to the national customer base in India in February, which equates to just 23% of the GSM total of 4.88m for the month. Given that February has only 28 days, however, the totals are not strictly comparable with other months of the year. more

Significant Drop in Mobile User Satisfaction Levels in 2006

A nation-wide mobile users' satisfaction survey carried out in India shows that there has been a large scale drop in satisfaction of mobile phone subscribers with respect to most service providers during 2006 compared to the previous year. The 4th survey conducted by the publication, Voice&Data, is based on a sample base of 4,524 respondents across 51 Indian cities in 23 states. more

India Subscriber Growth Outstrips China in Q3

For the first time ever quarterly net additions in India exceeded those in China in Q3 2006, even though the Chinese figure itself reached a record high in the period. A total of 17.065m new customers adopted mobile services in India in the three months to 30th September compared to 16.807m in China. Total customer numbers in India reached almost 123m by the end of Q3 2006, and penetration climbed 1.5 percentage points in the quarter to 11.2%. more
